Dear AFAN Members,
Your AFAN Steering Committee is excited to announce that AFAN will be awarding even more in scholarships to the membership for the year of 2021. $6,350 has been allocated across 14 separate grants, including a new professional development category and 2 diversity scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is to provide members with the resources to further their astrological knowledge, enhance their professional skills and engage more with the astrological community. A further underlying aim is to support the astrological community at large.
Please note that in order to be eligible to apply for a scholarship you must be an AFAN member in good standing for the year 2021 when you submit your application.
The following are the scholarships available this year as a benefit of your membership status within AFAN.
(4) $300 Conference-of-Your-Choice Scholarships (such as NORWAC, NCGR, ISAR, or similar conferences).
Recipients of the Conference of your choice scholarships will be required to perform a minimum of 1⁄2 hour per day service at the AFAN booth during the conference if one exists in person, and a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
(2) $550 Conference + Workshop Scholarships (for registration, hotel, and meal expenses at a conference of your choice).
Recipients of the Full Conference Scholarships will be required to perform a minimum of 1 hour per day service at the AFAN booth during the conference if one exists in person, and a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
(3) $500 Study Stipends.
Applications will be accepted for one course or term of study online or in person, up to a maximum of $500. Recipients must write a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
(1) $500 Local Group Support.
To support costs incurred by a local group, such a venue hire, website costs, incorporation costs, etc. Recipients must write a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
(2) $500 (NEW) Professional Development Stipends.
To support a professional astrologer to devote time to research, writing, or furthering the development of our field. Recipients must write a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
(2) (NEW) Diversity Scholarships.
Recipients will be able to choose one of the above scholarships, and need to write a summary of how the funds benefited you for AFAN’s newsletter.
HOW TO APPLY:
All current AFAN members in good standing are eligible to apply for the scholarships and can apply for more than one. Applications will only be accepted via this Google Form, though any questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For study stipend grants and professional development stipends, please ensure you include the cost for the specific study term or project proposal.
For Local Group grants only, please provide the names of two group members/ organizers, along with a mission statement, and how the funding will be used to support the mission. The member applying on behalf of the group must be an AFAN member. This scholarship is not available to groups associated with other astrological organizations.
Applications open January 28, 2021
For all awards, your application must be received by February 21, 2021, midnight PST US.
Scholarship recipients will be required to write a brief article about their experiences to be published in the AFAN newsletter after their study or conference. Conference scholarship recipients will also assist at the AFAN membership table during the conference attended if the event is held in person.
All applicants will be notified of results by March 7, 2021.
